GAPNA Members Lead the Way for Quality Care and Professional Development

By Sherry Greenberg

Hello GAPNA members!

We had a record turnout for the 2021 Pharmacology Virtual Conference with 672 paid attendees and an average 500 attendees per live session. Amazing! Many have commented they enjoyed the social and wellness activities, so thank you for participating and ensuring their success.

I was impressed by the level of member engagement and new connections made. As a friendly reminder, 2021 Pharmacology Conference attendees have until August 31, 2021 to complete Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) (formerly known as CNE) evaluations.

Thank you to all members who submitted abstracts for presentation at the Annual Conference. We received 22 workshop, general session, and concurrent session abstracts in December 2020 that were reviewed by the Planning Committee.

We received 42 poster and short podium presentation abstracts in March 2021 that are currently in review by members of the Education and Research Committees. Information about the GAPNA Annual Conference will be coming soon.

Members of the GAPNA Board of Directors contribute to a monthly “Best in Gerontological Literature” Series for Clinical Advisor highlighting articles related to care of older adults and the role of advanced practice providers.

Thus far, themes have included age-friendly care, family caregiving, telehealth, social isolation, mobility, and person-centered care. Check it out! Additionally, Dr. Midge Bowers’ article, “Why Older Adults Can’t Ignore Cardiovascular Care during the Pandemic,” was published in the March 2021 issue of MediaPlanet/USA Today. Way to go GAPNA!

Share the GAPNA Experience

We continue to experience the COVID-19 pandemic in multiple ways. Please continue to instill a culture of vaccine confidence, wear masks, wash hands, keep physically distant, and follow updated guidelines. Hopefully, soon, more people will be vaccinated, enjoy safe social gatherings with more time with friends and family, and return to usual work and travel. I hope you, your friends, and family remain safe and healthy.

I wish for peace, respect, value, dignity, and equity for our country and world. We, as care providers, educators, policymakers, administrators, and researchers, should set a good example and lead the way.

The National Office team and GAPNA Board of Directors look forward to highlighting and celebrating GAPNA’s 40th Anniversary throughout the year. Please continue to share GAPNA membership benefits with your colleagues. As a reminder, the associate membership is inclusive of anyone who is interested in gerontology and care of older adults who is not an advanced practice nurse. Please support GAPNA with your continued dedication and commitment and help ensure continued growth of our organization.
