Carolinas Chapter Holds 13th Annual Conference

By Laurie Kennedy-Malone

On April 30, 2022, we held a very successful 13th Annual Conference under the leadership of Dr. Anna Boone and the Chapter Planning Committee. Virtually, 20 attendees listened to the topics presented, which included an update on COVID-19, the latest information on treatment of heart failure, and an informative presentation on herbal supplementation and cognitive impairment.

We were informed on important issues pertaining to cultural diversity and the older adult. The final presentation was directed to caring for ourselves. Chapter President Dr. Carrie Fernald updated the attendees with future plans for the chapter and a report from the GAPNA National Board.

The recipient of the Laurie Kennedy-Malone Scholarship was also announced at the conference. Angela Turner is a student in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro DNP program with AGPCNP concentration.

We want to congratulate two of our chapter members, Dr. Margaret “Midge” Bowers and Dr. Tamatha (Tammy) Arms, for being elected to the GAPNA Nominating Committee and to thank Ladsine Taylor for her service as GAPNA Secretary for the past 2 years. We were also excited to learn several of our members have podium and poster presentations accepted this year for the National Conference.

We are in the planning stages for upcoming chapter volunteer opportunities. Looking ahead to the fall, our chapter will be participating in the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Guilford County, North Carolina on October 15.

For chapter members who live near Charlotte, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is on October 22. We invite all chapter members to join us in person or to contribute to our chapter’s donation for such a worthy cause. If you are member of this chapter, we encourage you to check out our Facebook page for updates on activities.
