The GAPNA Nomination period runs from March 1 – March 31st. GAPNA Members are encouraged to run for open positions on the GAPNA Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.
GAPNA Elections are open in May each year.
Board Positions:
President Elect: 3 Year Term
The President-Elect serves as a member of the Board of Directors and performs the following functions: performs duties as assigned by the President; automatically assumes the office of President at the end of the President’s term or in the event of a vacancy in the office of President; develops a thorough understanding of the bylaws and policies of the GAPNA, and Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised; works closely with the President; develops and prepares goals for upcoming term as President; establishes contact with the National Office staff for the operation of the GAPNA; recognizes and advises of changing outside influences which may affect the decisions of the Board; participates in the development and/or implementation of the strategic plan; contributes articles to the newsletter as required; completes other duties as assigned. Two letters of recommendation from GAPNA members in good standing is required. Must have held leadership position(s) in preceding two years at local or national level. Must have attended at least one national conference in preceding two years. Self-nomination is not accepted. Travel is required and expenses are reimbursed as set by GAPNA policy. Travel would vary year to year with the expectation of attending two to four in person meetings per year.
Three-year commitment: first year as President-Elect, second year as President, and third year as Immediate Past President.
Additional Requirements for President-Elect:
- Submit 2 letters of recommendation from GAPNA members in good standing
- Must have held leadership position(s) in preceding 2 years at local or national level
- Must have attended at least 1 national conference in preceding 2 years

Treasurer – 2 Year Term, elected every other year
The Treasurer serves as a member of the Board of Directors and performs the following functions: performs duties as assigned by the President; works with accountant and central office; maintains and/or reviews the financial records of the organization; presents financial record to the Board at each Board and Annual Meeting; proposes draft budget to the Executive Board at the winter meeting; participates in the development and/or implementation of the strategic plan; and is responsible for coordinating and assisting with resource development for the organization. Travel is required and expenses are reimbursed as set by GAPNA policy. Travel would vary year to year with the expectation of attending two to four in person meetings per year. Experience using spreadsheets is expected.
Secretary: 2 Year Term, elected every other year
The Secretary serves as a member of the Board of Directors and performs the following functions: performs duties as assigned by the President; records the proceedings of all official meetings of GAPNA; notifies the GAPNA membership of the Annual Meeting and any other special meetings; accepts responsibilities and assignments as delegated by the President; participates in the development and/or implementation of the strategic plan; contributes articles to the newsletter as required; and completes other duties as assigned. Experience editing is expected. Travel is required and expenses are reimbursed as set by GAPNA policy. Travel would vary year to year with the expectation of attending two to four in person meetings per year.
Director at Large: 2 Year Term
The GAPNA Director-at-Large serves as a member of the Board of Directors and performs the following functions: performs duties as assigned by the President and/or Board; participates in the development and/or implementation of the strategic plan; contributes articles to newsletter as required; assists in the orientation of the incoming Director-at-Large; and completes other duties as assigned. Travel is required and expenses are reimbursed as set by GAPNA policy. Travel would vary year to year with the expectation of attending two to four in person meetings per year.
Nominating Committee: 2 Positions
The Nominating Committee oversees the elections process, solicits and screens applicants, and presents a slate of candidates to the membership for voting. The business of the Nominating Committee is conducted via conference calls; travel is not required. Nominating Committee members may not run for office while serving on the Nominating Committee.
The candidate receiving the most number of votes shall serve for two years, the second year of the term as Chair of the Committee. The candidate receiving the second most votes will serve a one year term.
