Conference Presentations and Other Education Activities Planned

by Melodee Harris

The Geropsychiatric Nursing Special Interest Group (GPN SIG) has a very passionate, active membership. Participation is consistent and passionate in the care of older adults!

So far in 2018, the GPN SIG has submitted an abstract and it was accepted for a Pre-Conference Workshop at the 2018 GAPNA Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The topic is “Psychosis and Older Adults: Assessment, Diagnosis, and Management.”

In addition, members are writing a manuscript and newsletter submissions to go along with the conference presentation. The theme this year is on Psychosis in Older Adults.

Members of the GPN SIG are joining with the Veterans SIG to present a General Session on “Preventing Suicide in Older Adults.”

Several members are involved in the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Gerontological Nursing. Members of the GAPNA SIG are also very interested in the opioid crisis and how this impacts older adults.

Several members plan to submit an abstract for a poster presentation for the 2018 GAPNA Annual Conference on the opioid crisis.

In addition, the GPN SIG is represented on the Palliative Nursing Summit’s Pain Initiative project.

Please join our friendly, active group in caring for older adults!
