Chapter Leadership

Chapter Leaders Develop Helpful Resources

by J. Michelle Moccia

Congratulations to the Mid-South Tennessee Chapter and Chapter President Evelyn Jones-Talley for winning the Chapter Membership March Madness!

The chapter will receive a booth at GAPNA’s Annual Conference in Nashville, one complimentary Annual Conference registration, and a trophy.

Several committee chairs were present on chapter calls. Abby Luck-Parish (Awards Chair) offered a chapter challenge to nominate a member for every award category.

Tips for successful nomination were distributed. This helpful tool was created by the Awards Committee to be transparent regarding scoring and tips for submitting successful nomination.

Sue Mullaney (Health Affairs Chair) discussed opportunities for advocacy partnerships. Cindy Gerstenlauer, Great Lakes Chapter (Historical Chair), introduced an "In Memoriam” column to recognize members who have passed away.

The group was thankful for this recommendation and gave their support. Michelle Moccia (Research Committee Member) reminded everyone about submitting Research and Clinical Projects and Education Poster Abstracts. Brette Stevenson, Georgia Chapter (Leadership SIG Member), updated us on the Leadership SIG and a session at the Annual Conference titled “Leadership Is Everyone’s Responsibility: Engage and Advocate.”

Due to the challenge of finding members to take on a board position, a SWOT analysis describing the attributes of becoming a chapter president was created and nested in the GAPNA Website under Chapter Resources. (View Document).

Chapter presidents and presidents-elect have been busy with Student Night Outs, Journal Clubs, attending Capitol Hill advocacy events for APRNs, participating in “giving back” events in their states, Alzheimer walks, National Health Care Decision week, and annual meetings.

Congratulations to Brette Stevenson (formerly Winston) on her marriage! Welcome Evelyn Jones-Talley – new president for Mid-South Tennessee!
